A Conversation on Death; Or, Reassuring a Discord Friend

hi gamergirl. sorry i missed your message earlier. the fear of death can be very daunting, especially when you are at a young age and want to live, like me. it doesn’t matter what religion or belief you hold. you can be an atheist and you could have great optimism in life. you could be a christian and you could deal with great identity crisis. phobias are a very weird phenomenon.

“you could leave life right now. let that determine what you do and say and think.”—marcus aurelius

instead of thinking “i’m gonna die,” start thinking “we’re gonna die.” that collective reminder tells you that you’re not the only one dealing with death. everyone is. so, when everyone is in this same boat on fire, you can bet the ride to go down with everyone together.

sufjan stevens puts it beautifully in his song, “fourth of july.” (i’d recommend watching the music video of the live concert. i hope it will help)

you shouldn’t be ashamed of being afraid of dying. because everyone is, even if one is dealing with depression. as it is in the end, we’re living beings with even the teeniest tiniest speck of hope to live.

we’re gonna die. i’m gonna die. you’re gonna die. everyone in this server will die one day, and that’s very horrifying to think about. but let’s face it, because that is a fact. that’s the reality of things. we are all temporary beings. we are all walking towards a mortal end, and we can’t change that fate because that’s how it is. inevitable. death is the only thing destined for us from the beginning. the rest is in our hands, how we live the time between now and then.

everything that has a beginning also has an end.

live like death is at your elbow. live with that fear. fear is the catalyst to doing things. fear death but don’t live in its shadow. live right beside it. stare at death and just remember, that hey since i’m gonna die, why not make every moment worth living?

now living a worthy life does not mean building spaceships or doing a great feat. you could do that if that makes you happy *in spirit.* living simply means that you have enjoyed existing and did good to all. normally, we exist. but living takes a good will and the tiniest speck of hope.

you’re human. you are born with both hope and fear built in. you are bound for death, but you are also bound for unbound life and boundless happiness.

Noone will be pushed off a cliff. Probably.
